THE CONFERENCE

The Asian Medical Tourism Association (AMTA) proudly presents the World Medical Health Tourism Conference: Destination Down Under in 2011 which will be held in Brisbane, Australia on 10^th-12^th August, 2011. The conference is planning on bringing together many of world medical tourism service providers. As Australia holds a unique position in the world of medical tourism, it is both a patient provider and has a growing industry as a service provider for medical tourism in general. Brisbane has been chosen as the location for the event simply because of its great infrastructure and Brisbane is one of the world’s famous tourists destination within Australia. In addition to this, Brisbane’s proximity to the Gold Coast and other medical tourism hospitals makes it the ideal choice for the 2011 event.

Australia and Asia-Pacific region has more than 90% of the globe’s medical tourism infrastructure whether it be hospitals, spas and alternative health facilities. It is expected that the event will draw delegates from throughout the world. Planning is well underway for the conference to host more than 1,500 delegates and with a great array of speakers, exhibitors, workshops and discussion panels, the event is a must if you are a player or have an interest in the fast growing medical tourism industry.

The 2011 event is extra special as it is an election year for AMTA office bearers at the conclusion of the conference. It will be the first time for the World Medical Health Tourism Conference to be held in Australia. The event provides diverse opportunity for networking ever in the Australasia region. Service providers such as hospitals and medical specialists, doctors are encouraged to attend as the 2011 conference enters into not just a new region but a new face in its development such as a trade show open to the general public. THE ASSOCIATION

The Asian Medical Tourism Association (AMTA) has been formed because of the growing medical tourism industry in the Asia Pacific region. In the past, Asia Pacific has been the benchmark in the setting of standards for both medical facilities and patient’s care. With the emerging trend of more people entering into the medical tourism industry in the region, it seemed to be only prudent that the Asia Pacific must have its own medical tourism association to maintain the high standards that has already been achieved.

AMTA is non-profit

The association shall not show favouritism to any one member over another

The association shall produce an information flow (online newsletter on a regular basis)

The association shall network with other organizations with only the best interests of its members in mind.

The association shall act as a database coordinator with research relevant to the medical tourism industry

THE HOST CITY

Brisbane is the State Capital of Queensland and is one of those rare cities built around people and lifestyle.

THE VENUE

The main venue and host for the trade show will be at the Brisbane Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre is a world-class purpose-built venue renowned for its operational and service excellence. The Centre is located in a unique urban cultural and entertainment precinct in the heart of Brisbane.

CONFERENCE PHILOSOPHY

Based upon the belief of a new way forward and that is, as the world becomes smaller with the invention of super sonic aircraft and the availability of information through the internet coupled with the movement of people, has definitely spawned the medical tourism industry. With the rising cost of healthcare, patients, international companies, government health sector and even insurance companies alike are now looking for ways of reducing the medical cost without reducing the quality of care.
